Maryon Matsuda is a professor emeritus in the Department of Communication Disorders at California State University, Los Angeles. She received her Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University in Communication Studies. She holds the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology, the State of California license to practice speech pathology and the life time Standard Teaching Credential with a Specialization in Elementary Teaching from the state of California. While at Cal State Los Angeles, she taught courses in normal language acquisition, cultural/linguistic diversity in speech-language-hearing pathology, research and writing. She was also the coordinator and a supervisor for directed teaching.
Topics she has covered in her publications, miniseminars, papers, and workshops include: communication skills of blind children, storytelling and classroom discrimination, communication strategies for working with Asian parents, communication intervention with Down's Syndrome infants and toddlers, pragmatic skills of Hispanic children, a model for training bilingual paraprofessionals, and using puppetry in speech-language intervention. Maryon has been with Justine Sherman & Associates, Inc. since August 2003.
